ITI was created on the initiative of the first UNESCO Director General, Sir Julian Huxley, and the playwright and novelist, JB Priestly in 1948. ITI has been the A- Category partner NGO of the UNESCO since 1962. In 1996, ITI became one of the few formal associate partners of UNESCO. The headquarters of ITI was relocated from UNESCO Paris to Shanghai in November 2015.

ITI has now developed into the world’s largest organization for the performing arts, with more than 90 Centres and around 30 partner organizations and cooperating members spread across all the continents.


Job Profile:

The International Theatre Institute ITI is seeking an experienced and dynamic Cultural Event Manager to join its General Secretariat team in Shanghai, where ITI’s headquarters is located.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional with a performing arts background to play a key role in organizing ITI’s prestigious international events, developing new cultural projects, and fostering collaboration between ITI, its Centres, partners, and local and global performing arts communities.


Job Details:

Responsibilities:

1. Organizing ITI’s Major International Events

• Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of ITI’s existing flagship events, including: World Theatre Day Celebrations, International Dance Day Celebrations, ITI World Congress and its affiliated cultural activities, and other cultural and educational projects organized by the ITI General Secretariat GS.

• Oversee all event logistics, communication, and execution before, during, and after the events.

• Ensure smooth collaboration with ITI Centres, partners, and stakeholders for successful event implementation.



2. Designing and Developing New Cultural Projects

• Develop new performing arts projects and cultural initiatives that align with ITI’s mission to promote the performing arts, intercultural dialogue, and peace.

• Strengthen relationships between ITI GS, ITI Centres, and ITI partners through collaborative cultural projects. Co-organize innovative artistic and cultural events with local and international organizations.

• Foster engagement and exchanges with the local performing arts community in Shanghai and China.



3. Expanding ITI’s Educational Initiatives

• Explore and organize performing arts education projects and events, leveraging the international resources of ITI and the ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts.

• Build partnerships with universities, educational institutions, and performing arts academies to promote cultural learning and artistic exchange.

4. Promotion and Public Engagement

• Work closely with the ITI General Secretariat team to promote and publicize ITI events for maximum visibility and audience engagement.

• Develop and implement marketing strategies, including digital outreach and media coordination.

• Maintain strong communication with ITI’s international network to ensure broad participation in events.


Qualifications:

We are looking for a passionate, highly organized, and internationally-minded professional who meets the following criteria:

Language & Location

• A foreign national currently living and working in China.

• Excellent proficiency in English or French (spoken and written).

• Ability to communicate in Chinese (at least a basic level).



Background & Experience

• Performing arts background (e.g., artist, director, arts administrator, arts manager, cultural producer, etc.).

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in cultural event management, arts administration, or a related field.

• A higher education degree in performing arts, cultural management, or a relevant discipline.



Skills

• Strong project management and administrative skills.

• Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Highly self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining strong team collaboration.

• Experience in organizing cultural events is highly preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
