The Head of Mathematics is responsible for providing dynamic leadership and strategic direction for the Mathematics Department. The role involves ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, and supporting the academic and personal growth of all students. The Head of Mathematics will also manage departmental resources, mentor faculty, and align the curriculum with the school’s mission and international standards.

Key Responsibilities



1. Curriculum Development & Academic Excellence

Design, review, and enhance a rigorous and engaging mathematics curriculum aligned with international standards (e.g., IGCSE, IB DP, AP, or other relevant frameworks).

Ensure curriculum delivery promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of mathematical concepts.

Monitor and evaluate student progress through data analysis, assessments, and examinations.

Implement strategies to support high-achieving students and those requiring additional assistance.







2. Teaching & Learning


Teach mathematics classes at appropriate levels, modeling exemplary instructional practices.

Promote innovative and research-based teaching methodologies, including the integration of technology.

Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and enthusiasm for mathematics.

Conduct regular lesson observations and provide constructive feedback to department members.







3. Leadership & Departmental Management


Lead, inspire, and manage the Mathematics Department, including recruitment, mentoring, and professional development of staff.

Chair departmental meetings, set agendas, and facilitate collaborative planning and decision-making.

Manage the department’s budget, resources, and procurement of materials and technology.

Ensure effective communication within the department and with other school stakeholders.







4. Assessment & Reporting


Oversee the development and implementation of assessment policies and practices.

Analyze examination results and student performance data to inform instructional and curricular improvements.

Prepare and present reports on departmental progress to the senior leadership team.

Ensure timely and meaningful reporting of student achievement to parents.







5. Professional Development & Collaboration


Identify and support the professional growth needs of departmental staff.

Encourage collaboration among mathematics teachers and across other subject areas.

Stay updated with global trends in mathematics education and incorporate best practices into the department.

Participate in and contribute to school-wide initiatives and committees.







6. Community Engagement


Promote mathematics beyond the classroom through clubs, competitions, and school events.

Build strong partnerships with parents, providing guidance on supporting students’ mathematical development.

Represent the department at school events, parent evenings, and external professional networks.

Qualifications & Experience


Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Teaching certification and relevant teaching qualifications.

Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in mathematics, preferably in an international school setting.

Proven experience in a leadership role (e.g., Head of Department, Curriculum Coordinator, or similar).

Expertise in one or more international curricula (e.g., IB, IGCSE, AP).

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in educational technology and its application in mathematics instruction.

Desirable:



Experience in leading departmental accreditation or curriculum review processes.

Record of involvement in mathematics competitions, conferences, or publications.

Ability to teach additional subjects (e.g., Physics, Computer Science).
