The Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talents and Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “OCS”), formerly known as Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology, has been successfully held for 22 sessions with the strong support of the national host ministries. Job Profile:

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), (“HKUST(GZ)”), was officially approved by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China to enter the preparatory status in September 2019. Located in Nansha, Guangzhou, the campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed by September 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000. Under the “Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses” framework, the intended areas of focus in HKUST(GZ) will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST, a world-renowned international research university with innovation in her DNA. There will be four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments).


Job Details:

Responsibilities:

1.Provide a responsive, confidential and specialist counselling service to students and staff and make clinical decisions by assessing all relevant factors with a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, stress, exam panic, suicidal ideation, self-harm, transition issues, eating disorders, relationship issues, addictions, identity conflicts, bereavement and other difficulties and refer to external specialist services as and when necessary to support the individual needs.
2.Respond to emergencies and consultation requests from other members of the service and the wider institution, regarding students and staff who are experiencing mental health crises.
3.Provide front-line assessment, support and referral for students and staff with acute and chronic serious mental health issues, including students and staff at credible risk of suicide and harm to self or others.
4.Provide on-call crisis counseling and intervention support to students in need.
5.Provide psycho-education about anxiety, depression, stress, emotional regulation, relationships, eating concerns, substance abuse, sexual assault and other topics of concern to the welfare of students; Undertake group work and student workshops as appropriate, according to service need and specialist skills in this area.


Qualifications:

1.Strong abilities in counseling, crisis response, outreach programming and communication. Knowledge concerning counseling special populations including those who are at-risk for suicide and victims of sexual assault and substance abuse. Knowledge of principles of consultation. Skills in providing individual and group counseling to special populations including those who are at-risk students for suicide and victims of sexual assault and substance abuse.
2.At least possess a bachelor’s degree in counseling, counselor education, social work or clinical or counseling psychology by start date. Course work and appropriate training should include individual and group counseling, crisis response, psychological assessment, abnormal psychology or psychopathology, standards of ethical practice and substance abuse prevention. The successful candidate must be currently licensed or license eligible.
3.Experiences in providing individual or group counseling, and in crisis counseling an intervention to include on-call response and emergency hospitalization procedures, and experience counseling special populations to include those who are at-risk for suicide and victims of sexual assault and substance abuse. Prior experience working in a university counseling center is expected.
