About Company:

The Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talents and Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “OCS”), formerly known as Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology, has been successfully held for 22 sessions with the strong support of the national host ministries. Job Posting Details

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), (“HKUST(GZ)”), was officially approved by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China to enter the preparatory status in September 2019. Located in Nansha, Guangzhou, the campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed by September 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000. Under the “Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses” framework, the intended areas of focus in HKUST(GZ) will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST, a world-renowned international research university with innovation in her DNA. There will be four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments).

The candidate must be able to quickly become familiar with all aspects of the operation of a large low-speed wind tunnel and Water Tunnel complex and perform all duties. This facility assesses conventional performance for low-speed tests of powered and unpowered models of various bioinspired micro air vehicles (MAV) and underwater vehicles (UWV), unmanned surface vehicles and bio-inspired soft-robotic autonomous underwater vehicles in flight/swimming conditions. In addition to testing operations, one must become familiar with the tunnel plant systems which include compressors, pumps, and drive motors, in addition to smaller support equipment/instrument.

Responsibilities:

Low-speed wind-tunnel/water-tunnel operations responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Providing technical support to related faculty members and research staff/students;
2. Monitoring the laboratorial safety in compliance with the University’s safety regulation;
3. Maintaining configuration control of all facility systems;
4. Assisting the Lab Director to approve training records and the facility resume;
5. Maintaining the facility laser certifications.
The test facility often requires the use of specific systems, media, and test techniques to produce one-off approaches to solve complex problems associated with model integration, measurement application, and operational configurations. Safety must be integrated into all operations, which may utilize high energy laser-based measurement systems.

Qualifications:

1. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a relevant higher diploma/higher certificate with at least 3 years of post-qualification working experience in mechanical design, computer interface and instrumentation system development. Experience in the related research field and computer/IT skills are strongly preferred;
2. Strong background in facility system safety and in mechanical and electrical system analysis required;
3. Familiarity with aeronautics, MAVs, wind tunnel operations, personnel training, and configuration management desired.

This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
