Job Posting Details

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), (“HKUST(GZ)”), was officially approved by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China to enter the preparatory status in September 2019. Located in Nansha, Guangzhou, the campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed by September 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000. Under the “Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses” framework, the intended areas of focus in HKUST(GZ) will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST, a world-renowned international research university with innovation in her DNA. There will be four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments).

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking a seasoned professional IT Manager to be responsible and accountable for building the most advanced smart campus IT infrastructure and/or IT solutions in the world. Candidates with less experience will be considered as Business Analyst.

The appointee will be required to station and work in the Mainland (initially in Nansha prior to the official opening of the GZ campus in the Fall of 2022). English is the administration language of HKUST(GZ).

Job Details:

Responsibilities:

Successful candidate will cover the following responsibilities (adjust over time to fit project needs):
1. Design, plan and manage information technology and systems development and maintenance for smart campus;
2. Overseeing some of the following systems: ERP systems, campus management systems, smart educational systems, data center, data mid-platform, etc.;
3. Provide reasonable project timeline to business users, keep frequent communication with them on status/potential risk, to ensure service delivery to meet the deadline;
4. Manage UAT test plan: Obtain UAT test cases from relevant business users; Review UAT plan and results; Seek appropriate approvals;
5. Manage IT staff by recruiting, training, and coaching employees, communicating job expectations, and appraising their performance;
6. Design, develop, implement, and coordinate systems, policies, and procedures;
7. Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems;
8. Audit systems and assess their outcomes;
9. Handle IT budget and ensure cost effectiveness;
10. Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in time.

Qualifications:

Qualification Requirements
1. 3+ years of substantial management experience in IT development. Candidates with less experience will be considered as Business Analyst;
2. Bachelor or higher degree in Computer Science or IT related fields;
3. Proven project management experience; be able to deliver on time and on quality;
4. Good command of English, both orally and written;
5. Strong team building, communication and leadership skills;
6. Proven experience on analytical thinking and independent problem-solving skills;
7. Experience in smart campus and/or data mid-platform development is a big plus;
8. Work proactively, cheerful personality, detail orientated, strong communication, stress resistance and learning ability;
9. Full of passion, self-discipline, sense of responsibility, and good team spirit.
