China's Longest Intermediate Dry Ski Slope to Open in Chengdu

Perched atop the over 80-meter-high rooftop of Chengdu Pengzhou National Fitness Center, the longest intermediate dry ski slope in China has recently neared its completion. With landscaping and other finishing work underway, the center is projected to be completed and delivered by mid-year of 2026 at the earliest.

Over 100 Million “Enoki Mushrooms” Replicate Real Snow Skiing with over 95% Authenticity

The center features a dry ski experience zone covering 27,500 square meters, the largest in southwestern China. It offers a 440-meter-long intermediate dry ski slope—the longest in China—and a 130-meter-long beginner slope. Its high-density polyethylene “enoki mushroom” dry ski mats, the same type used in national competitions, replicate the ski experience on real snow with 95% authenticity. It is designed to cater to a wide range of needs, from beginner instruction and family recreation to professional training.

Walking on the slope carpeted with over 100 million “enoki mushrooms”, skiers can feel the same texture and hear the familiar squeak underfoot as if they were walking on real snow.

Buffer Zones Effectively Prevent Skiers from Skidding off the Slope

The intermediate dry ski slope features a maximum gradient of 14 degrees, straight sections of 150 meters, and sharp turns of 90 degrees.

Will skiers skid off the slope? “Firstly, the intermediate slope is intended for amateur skiers with some experience and for professional athletes. Beginners can only practice on the 130-meter-long beginner slope with a 10-degree gradient. Secondly, buffer zones have been installed along the intermediate slope in line with relevant national standards to prevent skiers from skidding off the slope,” explains the project construction manager.

Once operational, the center will enable residents to experience the thrill of slopes at their “doorstep” all year round regardless of the climate conditions in southern cities that limit ice and snow sports.
