Eight Indoor Venues for Cultural Exploration

Chengdu has much more to offer for visitors to the city other than the well-known scenic spots and the spring flower-viewing sites, such as the indoor venues as listed below.

Chengdu Natural History Museum

With the theme of “knowing the Earth as our home, exploring the mysteries of the nature” and an area of 50, 640 square meters, Chengdu Natural History Museum has six halls for permanent exhibitions and two halls for temporary exhibitions, housing some world famous exhibits with high scientific value including the fossil of Mamenchisaurus, the fossil of Chungkingichthys tachuensis and the remnants of meteorites found in Longchang City in southern Sichuan.

Opening: 9:00-17:00, Tuesday to Sunday; closed on Monday except on legal holidays and festivals; ticketing is closed at 16:00 and admission at 16:30.

Chengdu Art Museum

The A-zone of Chengdu Art Museum (Chengdu Tianfu Art Museum) occupies a total area of nearly 40, 000 square meters, of which there are 13 specific halls of 13, 000 square meters for exhibitions.

Admission: admission is free but requires the showing of tickets, which can be obtained upon showing codes of real-name reservations at the entrances.

Opening: 10:00—20:00, Tuesday to Sunday, closed on Monday except on legal holidays and festivals; admission closed at 19:00


Tianfu Humanities and Arts Library

The library is located at Tianfu Art Park and has functional sections including the Book Lending Area, Children’s Section, Aesthetic Life Area, Traditional Chinese Culture Lecture Room, Archive Room of Chengdu History and the Center for International Exchange on Humanities and Cultures.

Opening: 9:00-22:00, Sunday and Tuesday to Thursday, closed on Monday; 9:00-23:00, Friday and Saturday, legal holidays or festivals (closed at 22:00 on the last day of the holidays and festivals)

Admission: free and no reservation is needed

Chengdu Library

The collection comprises 3.45 million volumes of print materials, and offers 452 TB of digital resources for external use, covering 38 premium digital databases. These include over 1.6 million e‑books, 100 000 hours of audiobooks, more than 3 000 electronic journals, upwards of 150 000 video episodes, and 130 million journal and conference papers.

Opening: 9:00-22:00, Sunday, Tuesday to Thursday, 9:00-23:00, Friday and Saturday, legal holidays and festivals (closed at 22:00 on the last day of the holidays and festivals), closed on Monday

Notes: foreigners must apply for the readership cards at the reception counter at the library. The card is valid for four years, and no charge is needed to renew the card upon the expiration.


Guangdu Museum

Guangdu Museum boasts an extensive collection of cultural relics spanning nearly 100,000 years and encompassing seven major categories—stone tools, jade articles, pottery, bronze ware, porcelain, and bone‑and‑horn artifacts—thereby comprehensively showcasing Shuangliu’s long and brilliant historical culture. The museum merges Han and Tang architectural styles and occupies a total floor area of 9,037 square meters.

Admission: free of charge, reservation in advance needed(You can make inquiries with your passport if you failed to make reservations.)

Chuancai's Museum

The museum is a national AAA‑level tourist attraction and a state‑rated (third‑class) museum. It is the only “living‑theme” museum in the world devoted entirely to a regional cuisine culture. Its exhibits encompass key elements of Sichuan’s local heritage—Sichuan cuisine, Sichuan liquor, Sichuan tea, Sichuan opera, Sichuan-style architecture, and Sichuan‑style gardens, among others. The site covers roughly 40 mu (about 2.7 hectares) and holds over 6,000 artifacts.

Admission: RMB60/person

Opening:9:00-18:00 (admission closed at 18:00), except on occasions for closing upon notifications by the museum

LCA Aviation Museum

Located at the Global Center in southern urban Chengdu, LCA Aviation Museum is the first museum set up in a shopping mall across China. With an area of 5, 000 square meters, the museum has thousands of valuable documents and relics and houses several functional spaces, including the exhibition hall on the development of aerospace science and technologies, Hall of Simulated Flights, the aerospace-themed restaurant, etc.

Tickets: RMB158/person for grown-ups, RMB88/person for children

Opening: 10:00-18:00, Monday to Sunday

Sanhe Classic Car Museum

The Sanhe Classic Car Museum is currently the private classic car museum in China with the largest number of “collection‑grade” classic vehicles and the most comprehensive exhibition facilities and service functions. Its collection of over 300 classic cars spans 70 domestic and international automotive brands.

Tickets: RMB100/person for grown-ups, RMB50/person for children

Opening: 10:00-18:00, Monday to Sunday
