Hanghou - Xiaoshan

My name is Nardus Smith, and I have had the privilege of calling Xiaoshan my home for the past four years. Over the last two and a half years, I have been fortunate enough to work as a homeroom teacher at Hangzhou Huili, an experience that has enriched my life in countless ways.
Life in Xiaoshan is nothing short of delightful; it has truly become my second home. One of the things that warms my heart daily is the warm and friendly interactions with the local community. Whether it's a shopkeeper, a neighbour, or a stranger on the street, their smiles and greetings never fail to make my day. What's even more special is when I bump into our school's pupils or their parents near my community, as it creates a sense of belonging in this bustling city.
My typical week revolves around my role as a teacher. I start my day early, ensuring that my classroom is neat and all the necessary materials are ready for the day's lessons. As the students trickle into the classroom, I witness a group of eager faces, some ready to learn and others eager to share their adventures from the previous day. While teaching can be demanding, the rewards are immeasurable as I watch each pupil grow, become more independent, and achieve their potential.
Outside of the classroom, I have developed a passion for photography, and Xiaoshan provides a wealth of picturesque scenes to capture. I love to explore the district with my camera and drone, documenting its diverse and enchanting beauty. Whenever I need a break from the busy city life, I retreat to the peaceful Xianghu Lake. There I enjoy walking along the banks of the lake while enjoying the lush scenery around me.
Cycling is another hobby that I enjoy, and Xiaoshan offers a dedicated cycling track along the Qianjiang River. It not only makes cycling convenient but also ensures safety, allowing me to enjoy the beauty of the river while staying active. Cycling with friends has become a cherished pastime, and it's incredible how the city provides opportunities for both adventure and relaxation.
In summary, my life as a teacher in Xiaoshan, particularly at Huili Hangzhou, has been a rewarding journey filled with personal and professional growth. The warmth of the community, the joy of teaching, and the beauty of this district have all contributed to making Xiaoshan a place that I proudly call home.
