Xiamen’s new energy industry is currently centered on lithium-ion battery manufacturing, with key players including CATL Xiamen, CALB, Hithium and Ampace. From January to November 2024, the sector achieved an output value of RMB 85.859 billion. The launch of production by CATL Xiamen, CALB, and Ampace - leaders in China’s power battery sector - has significantly propelled the growth of Xiamen’s new energy industry. CATL and Xiamen University have partnered to establish the Xiamen CATL New Energy Research Institute, leveraging CATL’s 21C Innovation Laboratory and the Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory. This collaboration focuses on joint research in smart energy, energy storage technologies, high-power devices, and next-generation power batteries. By utilizing the state-of-the-art facilities at the Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory, the partnership aims to create an advanced technology service platform and launch joint talent development programs to enhance the competitiveness of Xiamen’s burgeoning new energy industry cluster.
