Chengdu Extends Traffic Links to Boost Openness and Development

The arrival of an EMU accommodation train in Shenzhen, at 10:06 on January 7, 2025, marks the launch of routine operation of night train transportation between Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area (GBA). The train D961, which started from Guangyuan City in northern Sichuan, via Chengdu North Railway Station, and arrived at Shenzhen North Railway Station, links GBA to western China and promotes cooperation between the two regions, while providing more options for travelers and great radiation effect for economic development of the areas along the route.

Previously, CA1741 of Air China took off at 07:45 on January 6 in Hangzhou and headed for Chengdu, marking the debut of the Air China Hangzhou-Chengdu express route. This express air traffic route is another express developed by Air China at its Hangzhou airport, after the Hangzhou-Beijing express route. The new line sees daily departures from Hangzhou from 7:45 to 21:25, offering nine round-trip flights for travelers between Chengdu and Hangzhou during a day.

At 11:08 on January 6, 2025, an express container train, with the serial number of X8512, loaded with manufacturing products from the GBA, departed from Guangzhou International Port Station and arrived at Chengdu Chengxiang Station 31 hours later. The cargo train features the “passenger train-like operation on the “daily service” basis, departing at a fixed time every day and running at a maximum speed of 120 km/h, with an average speed of 70 km/h throughout the journey, an improvement of 21% compared to trains of the same speed class. The debut of the operation marks the successful launch of the country's first express demonstration line between logistics bases, meeting the growing demand for transportation of consumer goods and e-commerce goods in the market, which will promote economic cooperation between Guangdong and Sichuan.
