Xiamen's recently-released five-year plan proposes a series of projects intended to tie together Xiamen and Kinmen. Proposals include electricity, natural gas and bridge connections as well as a second water supply channel. Other proposals are designed to offer increased access to Xiamen's Xiangan International Airport.
The plan also calls for the optimization of passenger and cargo routes between the two cities and the construction of smart ports at Wutong Wharf and the International Cruise Terminal. Other proposals include expediting the development of the cross-strait Xiamen-Quanzhou-Kinmen Cooperation and Development Zone. The mechanism for coordination and negotiation in exchanges and cooperation between these two cities is also set to deepen.
