Three Sichuan Universities Rank among China’s Top 50

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a professional higher education evaluation agency, has recently released the 2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking. A total of 43 universities from Sichuan are included.

Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Zhejiang University have secured the top three on the main ranking (the ranking of comprehensive universities).

The 2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking covers over 1,000 undergraduate universities in China. To precisely reflect differences in institutional nature and type and ensure fair ranking, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy categorizes universities into comprehensive universities, eight types of specialized universities, and four kinds of non-public universities, each ranked based on differentiated indicator systems.

In the 2026 ranking, 43 universities from Sichuan are listed, including 34 public universities and 9 non-government universities. On the main ranking, three universities from Sichuan have made it into China’s top 50. Among them, Sichuan University ranks 16th nationwide, leading Sichuan Province; the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China ranks 33rd; and Southwest Jiaotong University ranks 49th. Additionally, Southwest Petroleum University (119th), Chengdu University of Technology (127th), and Sichuan Agricultural University (134th) are all among the top 150 on the main ranking.

Among specialized universities, Sichuan institutions have demonstrated strong performance. Southwestern University of Finance and Economics ranks 5th on the Ranking of Chinese Financial and Economic Universities; Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine ranks 6th on the Ranking of Traditional Chinese Medicine Universities; Southwest Minzu University ranks 3rd on the Ranking of Chinese National Universities; Sichuan Police College ranks 9th among Chinese political science and law universities; and Chengdu Sport University ranks 8th among Chinese sport science universities.

On the overall ranking of non-government universities, Chengdu Jincheng College (26th), Chengdu College of Arts and Sciences (36th), Sichuan Technology and Business University (68th), Chengdu Neusoft University (75th), and Sichuan Institute of Industrial Technology (95th) have all entered the top 100.
