Qatar Airways recently announced that it will resume its Chengdu route starting May 16, adding another regular direct air link from Chengdu to the Middle East.

Qatar Airways has already resumed regular passenger flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong and plans to resume flights to Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Chongqing on May 16. The first flight from Doha to Chengdu after the resumption is scheduled for May 16, followed by the first resumed flight from Chengdu to Doha on May 17.
Ticketing information shows that the airline will operate three weekly flights on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays after the resumption of direct flights from

According to the latest global airport rankings as of April 6 released by VariFlight, a total of five airports in the Chinese mainland entered the world’s top 30 busiest airports by aircraft movements in March. Among them, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport ranked 27th globally, a place that marked the second consecutive month this year on the list of the world’s top 30 busiest airports.

Data shows that Chicago O’Hare International Airport was the busiest airport worldwide by aircraft movements in March, with approximately 72,600 takeoffs and landings. The five Chinese mainland airports on the global top 30 list were Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Together, these five airports accounted for 16% of the world’s total takeoffs and landings.

Among the 41 Chinese mainland airports with an annual throughput of over ten million passengers, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport ranked first with over 46,300 takeoffs and landings, while Shanghai Pudong International Airport handled the largest number of aircraft movements of international and regional flights with more than 15,400. Notably, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport ranked fifth in total aircraft movements, and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport ranked 12th.
