2025 New Year Reception Held in Chengdu

On January 16, 2025, the 2025 New Year Reception, hosted by the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality, was successfully held in Chengdu. Wang Fengchao, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and Mayor of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality, Chen Yanfu, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, Wang Qian, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality, and Wang Zhongcheng, Secretary General of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality, attended the reception.

Over 50 guests including consul generals (acting consul generals) and officials of 20 countries in Chengdu (Chongqing), including Austria, Belarus, Turkey, Japan, Singapore, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Canada, Nepal, South Korea, Thailand, Chile, Myanmar, Pakistan, Australia, Israel, France, and Italy, along with representatives from various national chambers of commerce, city representatives, and representatives from Chengdu-based Hong Kong and Macao institutions attended the event. They gathered with representatives from Chengdu’s municipal departments, including the Foreign Affairs Office, the Communications Department of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, the Education Bureau, the Commerce Bureau, the Investment Promotion Bureau, the Culture, Broadcast, TV and Tourism Bureau, the Sports Bureau, the Bureau of Exhibition, and Chengdu Opening-up and International Cooperation Center, to celebrate the Chinese New Year in the beautiful park city and to strengthen friendships.

In 2025, we will fully leverage Chengdu’s role as the center for international exchanges in Western China. We will work on concrete steps to implement the “Let’s Go Chengdu & Partners” initiative. We will further strengthen cooperation with countries including France, Germany, Singapore, Italy, Japan, and Korea through country-specific industrial parks. We will further develop key platforms such as the pilot free trade zone, and the “dual airports and dual ports” initiative, which includes the Chengdu Tianfu International Airport and Shuangliu International Airport as well as The World Games 2025 Chengdu, Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange. We will strive to achieve high level opening up to pave the way for high-quality development.

I almost can't believe we have a new year again – it feels like not long ago we just met here for the last new years celebration together with the Chengdu Municipal Government.
Most important, although, it is to say a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to all the people that helped and supported us in the last year, and in particular our hosts at Chengdu Municipal government for their ongoing cooperation and support. I would also like to say thank you to all the hard working people who do a great job every day to keep this huge city beautiful and clean, simply everybody out there making sure we can have the good life we have here in Chengdu.
With that said, I just wish all of us all the best for the upcoming new year of the Snake – health and wealth, prosperity and happiness!

At the reception, both Chinese and international guests had the opportunity to experience traditional Chinese New Year activities, such as writing Spring Festival couplets, appreciating fine liquor, and tasting new tea. They fully immersed themselves in the profound cultural heritage and the multifaceted elements of life that the Spring Festival represents.

At the reception, Ms. Takada Mari, Consul General of Japan, performed a piano rendition of “The Moon Represents My Heart”, offering her Chinese New Year’s blessings to Chengdu. Mr. Sak Nothaisong, Consul General of Thailand, sang an English song to express his best wishes for the Chinese New Year. Mr. Tan Zhien Joel, Consul General of Singapore, used a brush to write the character “福” (fortune), wishing prosperity and good luck to the people of Chengdu in the Year of the Snake. The atmosphere at the event was joyful and lively.

Through engaging Q&A sessions, both Chinese and international participants reflected on the significant accomplishments of Chengdu’s international exchanges. They reaffirmed their dedication to serving as a bridge, facilitating the influx of global enterprises and high-caliber talents to invest and flourish in Chengdu. Their goal is to guarantee that every international visitor to Chengdu can savor the joy and charm of feeling at “home in Chengdu”. As they look forward to the upcoming year, they are eager to jointly write a new chapter of friendly exchanges and win-win development.

Before the reception, some consular officials and representatives from Chengdu-based Hong Kong and Macao institutions visited Sichuan Tianfu New Area. They explored practical cooperation opportunities in the field of innovation and technology, visited the achievements of rural revitalization, and experienced the vibrant and beautiful lives of local residents, immersing themselves in the charm of “Chengdu in the everyday hustle and bustle”.

The successful results of our cooperation will extend benefits to a wider community.
