The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), (“HKUST(GZ)”), was officially approved by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China to enter the preparatory status in September 2019. Located in Nansha, Guangzhou, the campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed by September 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000. Under the “Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses” framework, the intended areas of focus in HKUST(GZ) will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST, a world-renowned international research university with innovation in her DNA. There will be four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments).
Job Title: Manager/Assistant Manager for Collection and Resource Management
Department: Library, HKUST(GZ)
We are inviting applicants for the position of Manager/Assistant Manager for Collection and Resource Management to take charge of the library’s collection development, maintenance and resource management. The successful applicant will be required to station and work in Mainland.
Responsibilities:
Duties
1. Implement the library’s collection development policy including books, periodicals, and multi-media in print and electronic formats;
2. Tender and negotiate with agents on purchases of library resources;
3. Monitor collection usage and analysis;
4. Provide and supervise metadata creation and bibliographic control for library’s resources;
5. Collaborate with the counterpart in HKUST Library in Clear Water Bay;
6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualification Requirements
1. A Bachelor’s degree, and a Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science, or equivalent;
2. At least 3 years’ practical library experience in related areas. Working experience in academic library preferred;
3. Has a good knowledge of acquisitions and subscriptions of educational resources, academic publishing, and current trends in collection management and assessment;
4. Has knowledge and experience in cataloguing and metadata standards and practices;
5. Good management and interpersonal skills. Abilities to multi-tasking and communicating in a multi-cultural environment;
6. A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (proficiency in both Putonghua and Cantonese preferred).
Applicants with less qualifications and working experience will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Manager.
Benefit:
This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
