You will guide children through experiments, outdoor exploration, building challenges and STEM projects. Students learn by observing, asking questions, testing ideas and explaining their discoveries.
This is an active, inquiry-based teaching role. English is the language of instruction, with a focus on helping children explore scientific ideas and communicate their thinking.
Lesson plans, teaching materials and programme training are provided. No lesson development is required, but teachers are expected to prepare thoroughly and become confident with each activity.
Location and Schedule
- Position: Full-time
- Locations: International schools and programme venues in Beijing, including Shuangjing/CBD and Olympic Park
- Schedule: Weekday after-school classes and weekend programmes, with preparation, training and coordination as part of the role. The regular working schedule and days off will be agreed before joining.
- Typical after-school lesson time: 3:40–4:40 pm during school terms
- Class size: Small groups, typically up to 15 students with one teaching assistant
Responsibilities:
What You Will Teach
- CREST Awards activities and STEM projects appropriate to students’ ages and abilities
- Hands-on science activities linked to the UK science curriculum
- Engineering and construction challenges
- Outdoor nature observation and exploration
- Scientific discussion, teamwork and simple presentations
Main Responsibilities
- Complete programme training and familiarise yourself with lesson plans, materials and equipment.
- Deliver well-organised, engaging lessons in line with programme requirements and relevant CREST Awards guidance.
- Guide students through observation, questioning, experiments and practical problem-solving.
- Use clear, age-appropriate English and adapt your teaching to different abilities and language levels.
- Encourage children to describe observations, explain ideas and present their findings.
- Maintain a safe, supportive learning environment through effective behaviour management and supervision.
- Work closely with Chinese teaching assistants and programme coordinators.
- Help prepare and organise materials and provide brief feedback on lessons and student progress.
Qualifications:
- A native English speaker who enjoys working with children aged 5–12
- Experience teaching children in science, STEM, English, outdoor education or project-based learning
- Confidence managing groups and making practical activities fun, purposeful and well-organised
- A warm, energetic and patient approach
- Reliability, punctuality and professionalism
- Comfort teaching both indoors and outdoors
- Willingness to learn new activities and respond flexibly to students’ needs
- Legal eligibility to work full-time in China, with an appropriate work visa or work authorisation
A science or STEM background is welcome but not essential. We value teachers who are curious, willing to learn and able to help children think like young scientists.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in international schools, bilingual schools or learning centres
- A background in education, science, STEM, environmental education or early childhood education
- A teaching qualification such as PGCE, TEFL, TESOL or CELTA
- Familiarity with inquiry-based learning, IB PYP, the UK curriculum or project-based learning
