About Company:

The Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talents and Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “OCS”), formerly known as Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology, has been successfully held for 22 sessions with the strong support of the national host ministries. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a world-renowned international research university. The Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China officially approved the preparatory status of HKUST(GZ) in September 2019. The GZ campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed in 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000. The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures. Four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments) are now in place.

The Role
The University is looking for applicants with management experience in laboratory services. The successful applicant will lead team members to deliver the successful execution and completion of new build and renovation laboratory projects, as well as the management of daily laboratory support and services. Applicants should have experience in the design and installation works of laboratory furniture layout, fume cupboard, Air Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation system, mechanical, electrical & plumbing such as power, compressed air, de-ionized water, cold water, drainage etc. Reporting to the Laboratory Services Senior Manager, the successful applicant will oversee and manage the planning, coordination and implementation of new installations and maintenance of laboratory furniture, mechanical and electrical services. The successful applicant is also required help define and uphold HKUST’s expected standards and quality of laboratory installations.

3. Lead team members to deliver the successful execution and completion of new build and renovation laboratory projects, as well as the management of daily laboratory support and services.

Qualifications:

Qualification Requirements
1. A bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical engineering or building services, plus at least 8 years of post-qualification experience;
2. Relevant work experience in HKSAR and the PRC is an advantage;
3. Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Chinese word processing and AutoCAD are preferred;
4. Excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills to manage the near- and long-term operations of the Laboratory Services Team;
5. Strong sense of responsibility, leadership, ability to delegate and provide guidance are essential;
6. A good command of written English and Chinese (proficiency in both Putonghua and Cantonese preferred).

Benefit:

This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations. The successful applicant is expected to commence employment with a period of orientation and familiarization at HKUST’s Clear Water Bay Campus with the Laboratory Services Team for around 6 months. Upon completion of this period, the successful candidate will transfer to work at the HKUST Guangzhou Campus. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
