Job Profile:

Develop, coordinate, deliver, and assess academic advising of students; train, supervise, and mentor academic advisors; oversee student circulation in the Global Network for fall and spring; develop and implement plans for students who are at risk, serve as the office’s liaison to the Student Health & Wellness Office; develop and lead program development where necessary and participate as a member of strategic task forces. Collaborate with the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs on development and distribution of academic standards, policies, and requirements; Working with the Associate Provost, the Assistant Dean will develop curriculum, including reviewing academic proposals (e.g., for courses, new majors/minors, revised major/minor requirements) for adherence to relevant policies and procedures, to confirm that they are appropriate and useful additions to current program work; work on academic planning and practices, policy development, assessment strategies and learning outcomes, and relevant strategic planning initiatives; Lead, implement, and maintain technology initiatives for the Office of Academic Affairs including accuracy and updates to the website, weekly office newsletter, and online platforms to assist in academic support programs; respond to evolving needs within the Office of Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities:

Academic Advising:

Develop, coordinate, deliver, and assess academic advising of students; manage and maintain Albert advising appointment and notes system.
Hire, train, supervise, and mentor academic advisors in working with students.
Track, develop, and implement plans for students who are at academic risk, serve as the liaison to the Student Health & Wellness Office.
Lead program development to support student academic needs including language conversation partner program, peer advising program; develop other needs where necessary, work collaboratively with Academic Resource Center Director on Academic Support Program for students on warning or probation, and participate as a member of strategic task forces upon request.
Collaborate with Associate Provost to uphold student academic integrity policy; serve on NYUSH Academic Standards Committee; Chair committee in absence of Associate Provost.
Work with Associate Provost to receive feedback and respond to academic concerns from student body.
Oversee advising events coordination and delivery including but not limited to: Global Week, Predeparture Orientation (study away), Grad School Blast, retreats and team building, International Education Discussions, etc.


Academic Planning and Programming:

Collaborate with the Associate Provost on academic planning and practices; policy development; assessment strategies and learning outcomes; and relevant strategic planning initiatives.
Work with the Associate Provost to develop curriculum, including reviewing academic proposals (e.g., for courses, new majors/minors, revised major/minor requirements) for adherence to relevant policies and procedures, to confirm that they are appropriate and useful additions to current programs and conform to NYU standards; serve as a member of the Curriculum Committee.



Enrollment Management:

Collaborate with the Registrar to maintain up to date student enrollment forms; approve student enrollment forms for processing.
Track and analyze student leave of absences and withdrawals.


Study Away:

Lead and manage the various processes involved in the circulation of NYU Shanghai students out into the NYU Global Network.
Prepare NYU Shanghai students for studying at the Global Sites.
Develop and implement programs to support students returning to Shanghai after studying away, including a re-entry conference.
oversee outgoing students’ pre-departure orientation, academic advising, faculty mentoring, and integration.


Departmental Communications:

Collaborate with the Associate Provost to develop and supervise print and electronic materials on academic standards, policies and requirements.
Lead, implement, and maintain technology initiatives for the Office of Academic Affairs some of which include maintaining accuracy and provide updates to the website, weekly office newsletter, and online platforms to assist in academic support programs.


Academic Policies and Processes

Including and not limited to overseeing the following processes and policies: Academic Integrity, Grade Appeals, Incomplete Requests, Leave of Absence, Return from Academic Suspension, Withdrawals, etc.



Internal and External Committee Service

Including but not limited to: Student Success, Core Curriculum, Area Heads, Undergraduate Affairs, Curriculum, NYU Advising Deans, Prehealth, etc.



Miscellaneous

Respond to evolving needs within the Office of Academic Affairs, leading program development where necessary, participating as a member of strategic task forces upon request, additional duties as required.


Personnel

Hire, train, supervise, and mentor academic advisors and associates who support Assistant Dean’s role.


Qualifications:

equirements:

Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related academic field.
5-8 years progressively responsible professional level experience in higher education; experience working in an ESL setting.
Superior administrative and strategic planning skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills. Comfort with handling sensitive situations and/or people. Ability to professionally interact with students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators, and solve complex interdepartmental issues. Ability to promote NYU Shanghai and to work independently and as part of a team. Broad understanding of academic and international programs, ability to form relationships with key colleagues across campus. Familiarity with the use of technology in day to day operations (word-processing, databases, desktop publishing and design, and web applications).

Preferred Background:

PhD or equivalent.
10+ years of experience working with college students and identifying needs of various populations of students.
