TianjinThe First Phase of the 2026 “China-Europe Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Tour” was Successfully Held in Beijing and Tianjin
From April 22 to 24, the first phase of the 2026 “China-Europe STI Tour” was successfully held in Beijing and Tianjin. Fourteen representatives from the embassies of 12 European countries in China, including Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Slovakia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as from the Delegation of the European Union to China, participated in the event. Centering on the core format of "policy exchange + field research," the event brought together the strengths of government, industry, academia, and research sectors to build a practical matchmaking platform. This initiative aims to support the development of Beijing (and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region) as an international hub for scientific and technological innovation, and to promote the deep integration of China-Europe cooperation in science and technology.

Zhuang Jia, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), attended the event and delivered a speech. He emphasized that technological innovation thrives on exchange and values mutual benefit. He expressed the hope that China and Europe would take seize this event as an opportunity to explore cooperation opportunities, build consensus on innovation, and allow more innovative achievements to benefit the peoples of China and Europe and contribute to global development. Zhao Shufan, Deputy Director-General of the China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC), briefly introduced the Center's recent progress in Europe-oriented cooperation in the areas of science and technology people-to-people exchanges, cooperation platform building, and bilateral and multilateral mechanisms. He stated that the Center will continue to play its role as a bridge and bond, steadily build high-level exchange platforms, and further consolidate and expand the achievements of China-Europe science and technology cooperation. Li Zhilei, a second-level inspector of the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission and the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park, and Tan Zhendong, Deputy Director of the Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and Director of the Tianjin Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, respectively introduced the achievements of Beijing and Tianjin in scientific and technological innovation development and their cooperation outcomes with Europe. They expressed their willingness to continuously optimize the international innovation environment and sincerely invited European countries to deepen cooperation in the field of science and innovation.

European diplomats stationed in China introduced their respective countries' strategies and policies for scientific and technological innovation development, as well as the current status, achievements, and future prospects of their exchanges and cooperation with China in the field of science, technology and innovation. The envoys stated that China's achievements in scientific and technological innovation are remarkable, and they looked forward to using this event as a link to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in key areas, achieving mutual benefit and common development.

During the event, the delegation of European envoys in China also visited the China-Greece Joint Laboratory of Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology, the Beijing High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone Innovation Operation Center, the Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park, Tianjin University, and Yuanshan Medical, among other institutions, gaining a firsthand look at the practical achievements of Beijing and Tianjin in cutting-edge technology research and development and international cooperation.
The 2026 “China-Europe Science, Technology and Innovation Tour” is hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and organized by the China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC). It aims to establish a regular and practical platform for exchange and cooperation, focusing on key areas of China-Europe research and innovation. Following the successful conclusion of its first phase in Beijing and Tianjin, the Tour will subsequently visit more Chinese cities, continuing to promote deeper and broader cooperation between China and Europe in areas such as research and innovation, industrial integration, and people-to-people exchanges.
