Government workers recently visited the home of American Jake Pinnick and his daughter to deliver their social security cards in person.
The cards give the family access to local medical insurance and endowment insurance services. It's something Pinnick and his Chinese wife have been looking forward to for a long time.
Pinnick came to Wudang Mountain in Shiyan, Hubei province, 15 years ago to learn Chinese martial arts from Yuan Shimao, an inheritor of the provincial intangible cultural heritage. In 2014, he graduated and became qualified as a coach. Since then, he has promoted Wudang kungfu, tea ceremonies, traditional musical instruments, and culture.
In April this year, Pinnick obtained a Chinese permanent residence permit, which paved the path for him to receive social security benefits.
It is the first social security card given to a non-citizen in the Wudang Mountain Tourism and Economic Special Zone. The human resources and social security bureau staff provided door-to-door information registration, verification, and photo collection.
