The closing ceremony and awards presentation for the 18th Qingdao International Sailing Week and the 3rd China (Qingdao) International Marine Sports Convention were held at the Qingdao International Conference Center (QICC) on September 6, marking the conclusion of the 10-day marine sports extravaganza. The event’s 19 competitions and one sailing camp drew more than 3,000 athletes from 13 countries and regions.
This year’s Sailing Week and International Marine Sports Convention made full use of Qingdao’s extensive coastal resources with competition venues spread across multiple locations. By promoting deeper integration among culture, sports, commerce and tourism, the event helped boost consumer spending and international exchanges, injecting strong momentum into Qingdao’s efforts to become a high-quality national destination for marine outdoor sports and accelerate the development of a modern marine hub city.
Although the curtain has come down on the event, the sporting action is far from over. Top-level competitions including the Far East Cup International Sailing Rally, the National Coastal Rowing Beach Sprint Invitational and the China Ocean Kayaking Open will take place in succession. Qingdao will also host two major international marine sporting events for the first time: the World Rowing Coastal Championships and World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, as well as the World Sailing Annual Conference. The events are expected to further fuel a citywide enthusiasm for marine sports.
