The launch ceremony of the construction of the Sino-German Zero Carbon Park and the signing ceremony of key projects from German-speaking countries were held in Taicang, Suzhou yesterday.
During a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Feb. 25, President Xi Jinping noted that Germany's new development strategies in such areas as technology, innovation and digital development highly resonate with China's objective of pursuing intelligent, green and integrated development during the 15th Five-Year Plan. Organizations and companies from both sides signed multiple cooperative agreements, including the agreement on the establishment of the Sino-German Zero Carbon Park in Taicang.
Suzhou has continuously deepened cooperation with Germany in recent years and is home to nearly 800 German-funded enterprises. Of note, Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, has gathered over 560 German companies and formed bilateral cooperation in such fields as industrial innovation, culture and green development.
The Sino-German Zero Carbon Park, the first of its kind in China, is a major pilot program under the framework of the Sino-German Working Group on Energy Efficiency co-established by Taicang Hi-tech Zone and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). With a construction period of 2.5 years, the project will focus on six key areas, including zero-carbon planning, green empowerment for companies, energy-conservation and carbon-reducing measures, and dual certifications from China and Germany.
Ten key projects from German-speaking countries were signed yesterday and are set to settle in Taicang, spanning high-end equipment, semiconductor laser equipment and new materials, among others. Among them, the precision spring project of KERN-LIEBERS involves a total investment of 20 million U.S. dollars and is expected to generate an additional annual output value of 300 million yuan; the second phase of the electric drive system project of Schaeffler will apply digital, smart and green technology to the production of new-type electric drive parts for new energy vehicles and is predicted to generate an additional annual output value of 1.5 billion yuan.
