E-receipt for railway ticket, a fully digitalized electronic receipt, has been launched in China's passenger rail transportation system starting from November 1, 2024, according to a recent notice jointly issued by the State Taxation Administration, the Ministry of Finance, and the China Railway Group.

Passengers can log in to their 12306 China Railway account (on the website or mobile App; the same below)
within 180 days after the end of their trip or payment of ticket refund or rescheduling fees to truthfully obtain their e-receipts. If it exceeds 180 days, this shall be carried out in line with the terms of the passenger's agreement with the railway transportation company in question. Railway transportation enterprises are required to issue e-receipts truthfully through the platforms of 12306 China Railway and send them to passengers via the platforms of 12306 China Railway or email. Passengers can inquire about, download and print out the receipt through the platforms of 12306 China Railway.

Railway transportation enterprises currently provide e-receipts for ticket sales, refunds, and rescheduling through the system for railway ticket sales and reservations for domestic passengers, but this service is not applied for non-real-name tickets, emergency paper tickets, China Railway & Banking Expressway, E-Card tickets and other related cards and tickets for the time being.

Additionally, the tax administrations can synchronize the delivery of e-receipts to railway ticket buyers through the digital tax accounts on the electronic invoicing platform. Through digital tax accounts, buyers can inquire about, verify, download, print out, and use their digital receipts. Buyers can also verify their digital receipts via the
National Portal for Value-added Tax Invoice Verification (https://inv-veri.chinatax.gov.cn). Passengers can inquire about and download their digital receipts through their personal ticket folder in the Personal Income Tax App.
