Handan First Hospital City was founded in October 1950. It is a large modern comprehensive tertiary Grade A hospital that integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, and rehabilitation. Currently, it is an affiliated hospital and teaching hospital of seven medical colleges, a master's degree training and teaching hospital of Hebei Medical University, a "National Stroke Screening and Prevention Base Hospital", and a "Standardized Training Base for Resident Physicians" "National Drug Clinical Trial Institution", "Academician Workstation", "Hebei Province Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base Hospital", "National Hypertension Base Hospital", "Xijing Digestive Disease Hospital Handan Integrated Medical Center".

The hospital has over 1000 advanced medical equipment worth over 100000 yuan, including GE 3.0 MRI and 320 row 620 slice spiral CT, VE9 color ultrasound, two Siemens large C-arms, dual C-arm DSA, Toshiba fully automatic biochemical analyzer, urology specific examination system, heart 160 failure ultrafiltration and dehydration device, all of which are advanced in the world. The hospital has a total of 1620 beds, with 57 clinical departments, 18 medical technology departments, and 30 logistical departments. Among them, there are 36 provincial and municipal key specialties and disciplines such as hematology, cardiology, and neurology, as well as 3 characteristic specialties.

The hospital has four campuses and currently has 3140 employees, including 548 with senior professional titles, 956 with intermediate professional titles, and 599 with doctoral and master's degrees. It has formed a talent team that combines the elderly, middle-aged, and young, with a reasonable talent pool.

The planned construction of a new eastern medical and elderly care integrated hospital area covering an area of approximately 450 acres will be completed in two phases, with 2000 planned medical beds and 1000 planned elderly care beds.
