Xiamen

The Xiamen Botanical Garden is a 5A-level tourist attraction of the country. It was established in 1960 and is located in Wan Shishan in the southeast corner of Xiamen Island. It backs onto Wulao Peak, Nanputuo Temple, Xiamen University, and is adjacent to Zhongshan Road. The entire garden covers an area of 4.91 square kilometers. It is the first botanical garden in Fujian Province and is a comprehensive botanical garden integrating functions such as plant species preservation, research, popular science education, ecological protection, tourism services, and the promotion and application of urban landscaping plants. It receives over 4 million visitors annually.

The botanical garden has cultivated and preserved over 10,000 species of plants (including subspecies and varieties) from all over the world. It has built 16 specialized parks such as the Palm Plant Area, Succulent Plant Area, Gymnosperm Plant Area, Curious Plant Area, Araliaceae Plant Area, and Rainforest World. It is the National Palm Plant Conservation Center, the National Science and Education Base, the National Biodiversity Conservation Demonstration Base, and the National Triangle Lily Germplasm Repository. It has the largest outdoor succulent plant exhibition area in China and is known as the "Green Museum". The plant landscapes, natural wonders, and cultural attractions blend together. The mountains rise and fall, and strange rocks and interesting stones are everywhere. The scenery is beautiful and comfortable. It features many Xiamen scenic spots such as "Wan Shishan Enriched with Greenery", "Da Ping Stone Smiling", "Heavenly Bell in the Sky", and "Ten Thousand Palms Facing the Sky". Ancient temples in the southern part of Fujian Province, such as Tianjie Temple, Wan Shishan Lotus Temple, and Taiping Rock Temple, are also located here.
In 1984, Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally planted a large-leaved camphor tree in the South Yucca Lawn, which has now become a place to remember a great leader.
