There are always new travel options in Beijing. You can ride a bike and pass by numerous landmark buildings in
Beijing Olympic Park and get yourself amazed by the light shows in the park. The three major cultural buildings in
Beijing Municipal Administrative Center are also awesome choices, allowing you to partake in various cultural activities such as high-quality performances and exhibitions.
Beijing Olympic Park
Beijing Olympic Park, located at the northern end of the
northern extension of Beijing's Central Axis, is so far the world's only park that has served as a venue for both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, housing many well-known Olympic stadiums such as the
Bird's Nest (National Stadium), the
Water Cube (National Aquatics Center, also known as the "Ice Cube"), and the
Ice Ribbon (National Speed Skating Oval).
Beijing Olympic Park has recently introduced a
7.5-kilometer cycling route that takes approximately
24 minutes to complete. The route connects the
China National Convention Center, China National Arts and Crafts Museum, the Museum of the Communist Party of China, the Digital Beijing Building, and
the National Indoor Stadium, along which cycling enthusiasts can enjoy the beautiful views of the Bird's Nest, the Water Cube, the Olympic Central Square and other major venues without entering the core area of the park.
The 2024 Beijing Chaoyang International Light Festival kicked off on
October 18 with an array of sub-events at the Olympic Central Area, including tower shows, interactive illumination installations, light art exhibitions, and a cultural bazaar. Here you can embark on an amazing journey of lights and shadows.
Three Major Cultural Buildings in Beijing Municipal Administrative Center
The
three major cultural buildings in
Beijing Municipal Administrative Center -- Beijing Performing Arts Centre, Beijing Library, and the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing -- have already become popular travel choices, especially among netizens.
Beijing Performing Arts Centre, situated on the bank of the thousand-year-old Grand Canal, is referred to as a "
cultural granary" due to its distinctive design resembling an ancient granary. Recently,
"The Legend of the White Snake"(白蛇传), a Peking Opera production by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and several other productions will be onstage here.
Entering Beijing Library, readers can engage in
reading activities featuring artworks and urban life, and observe the stunning
architectural charm marked by openness and shininess. Recently, events such as
"Light of Printing -- A Peek in China Printing Museum"(印刷之光——走进中国印刷博物馆) will be held at the library.
The design of the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing was inspired by three elements in the ancient paintings about the canal, namely
ships, sails, and water. The five sail-shaped roofs appear staggered and dynamic from a distance. A number of exhibitions including
"Scroll of Landscapes of Beijing Grand Canal"(北京大运河揽胜图卷) are currently on display, something that should not be missed by those interested in them.
