Hefei hosts foreign expert symposium

Lead: Foreign experts living and working in Hefei, Anhui province, gathered on May 20 to share insights into how to improve the quality of life for expats in the city. Foreign experts living and working in Hefei, central China's Anhui province, gathered on May 20 for a symposium co-hosted by the Foreign Talent Research Center of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology.

During the event, nine experts from seven countries, including Germany, Russia, Canada, Singapore, the United States, Mexico and Korea, shared their experiences living and working in the city, and provided suggestions on how to improve the quality of life for expatriates in Hefei.

"Over 1,500 foreign experts from 74 countries are contributing to the economic and social development of the city," noted head of the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology. He highlighted the crucial role of foreign experts as a bridge for cooperation and exchange between China and the world, and their contributions to Chinese modernization.Clause Thomas Weise, a German professor at the School of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data of Hefei University, praised the city's improved infrastructure and quality of life. "I feel deeply thankful for the opportunities and the comprehensive support that all of these colleagues and enterprises and I myself have received during all this time," said Weise, who also expressed his hope to make Hefei his home.Chen Wenjie, a distinguished professor at Anhui University, spoke highly of Hefei's support for academic research. "Hefei is a vibrant city of innovation, with a solid industrial foundation and a thriving innovation ecosystem in artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing," Chen noted. He also called for further academic exchanges between Hefei and other international institutions."Hefei city has been my only home in China," said Daniel David, associate professor at Hefei University of Technology. He concluded by expressing his hope for better health care services, medical insurance and pension insurance.
