Urumqi Launches Comprehensive Service Center for Foreigners

Oct 27, 2025

The center offers five key categories of services — payment, communication, transportation, culture and tourism, and investment and trade consultation — designed to provide immediate, convenient assistance to international travelers upon arrival. This initiative not only addresses the practical needs of foreign nationals but also enhances Urumqi’s international appeal and service capacity.Located at the international arrivals exit of the airport, the center embodies the concept of “services available upon landing.” It focuses on the full life-cycle service needs of foreign nationals, with five dedicated service counters tailored to different functional areas. In the payment service section, the center offers solutions for foreigners’ everyday spending and travel needs. It provides WeChat Pay and Alipay mobile payment support, international credit card cash withdrawal, and a self-service ATM accepting five major cards — VISA, UnionPay, MasterCard, American Express, and JCB. On-site financial professionals are available to guide users through device operation and help resolve any issues, ensuring smooth access to both cash and digital payment methods. The communication service area assists foreign nationals with mobile SIM card registration, plan selection, and cross-border communication needs. Staff help organize passport and registration documents, simplifying the process so that users can activate services immediately. Based on the length of stay, the center also recommends customized plans that include international calls and cross-border data packages, balancing practicality and cost-effectiveness.At the transportation service counter, foreigners can purchase and recharge the Urumqi PASS Card, and receive multilingual user guides to quickly understand how to use local public transportation. Staff also provide explanations about card usage and system benefits. The culture and tourism service section features both an online information hub and an offline service desk, integrating Urumqi’s key cultural and tourism resources. The multilingual online portal provides real-time updates on scenic attractions, cultural venues, and special events. Meanwhile, the offline desk is staffed with tourism consultants who offer printed multilingual travel guides, maps, and recommended itineraries to help visitors plan personalized cultural experiences in Urumqi. The investment and trade consultation section incorporates the “Nine Service Systems” of the China–Eurasia Investment and Trade Promotion Center, offering government, legal, business, talent, and cultural consulting. It aims to build a dual-hub service platform combining aviation and trade, linking passenger services with cross-border business support. This initiative seeks to transform transient travelers into long-term partners — turning “traffic flow into retention, and visitors into investors.
