TWINNING AGREEMENT SIGNED IN NOVEMBER, 1979

St. Louis is the second largest city in Missouri in the United States of America. It is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River and has a population of about 320,000. It is the cultural and economic center of the Greater St. Louis area. St. Louis used to be the manufacturing center of the central United States, and it is also home to the headquarters of Emerson. St. Louis has 2 professional sports teams: the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball and the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League. St. Louis hosted the third Summer Olympic Games and the World Exposition in 1904.
Nanjing and St. Louis established sister-city relationship in November, 1979, the first pair of sister cities between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and the United States of America. Since then, two cities have kept fruitful exchanges and cooperation in the fields of business and trade, education, culture, health care and so on. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of sister relationship, Nanjing gave a pair of Ming-style bronze chairs to St. Louis as a gift, St. Louis gave a statue of a baseball player in return, which is placed in Nanjing International Friendship Park.
