LEGAL ASSISTANCE

According to the relevant provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law of the People’s Republic of China, if a foreign criminal suspect or a defendant is blind, deaf or mute, or a mental patient who has not completely lost the ability of recognizing or controlling his own conduct, and thus has not entrusted anyone to be his defender, or If there is the possibility that a foreign criminal suspect or defendant may be sentenced to life imprisonment or death and yet he has not entrusted anyone to be his defender, the People’s Court, the People’s Procuratorate or the public security authorities shall notify the legal assistance institutions to designate a lawyer to serve as a defender. After receiving the notice, the legal assistance institution shall designate a lawyer to provide free legal aid services to the foreign criminal suspect for criminal defense.
