The "Tianqiao Talent" Outdoor Arts and Leisure Night Market (“我在天桥露一手”户外文艺休闲夜市) recently kicked off at Tianqiao Civic Square in Xicheng District. Running daily from 16:00 to 21:30 for 10 days, September 12 to 21, this market offers outstanding shows, delicious food, and trendy goods.
The market features two performance stages: a main stage and a small stage. Every evening, the main stage hosts three exciting shows, bringing together top troupes such as Deyunshe, a renowned xiangsheng/crosstalk group, along with talented performers from Beijing universities.
The small stage delivers a more street-style vibe. Popular Bilibili creator Kuaibanyuanyuzhou, known for kuaiban (快板, an oral storytelling art accompanied by clappers), and Zhang Jianping, a kouji (口技, vocal mimicry) master and recognized intangible cultural heritage inheritor, take turns entertaining the crowd. Audiences also can join in the traditional "copper coin reward" custom - tossing coins on stage to show appreciation, a nod to Tianqiao's folk culture.
The market area is also packed with highlights. Dehua white porcelain, a Chinese intangible cultural heritage item, is featured with its stunning "paper-thin porcelain" (纸片瓷) technique, allowing visitors to admire its delicate craftsmanship up close. Food lovers can sample creative local flavors, from ice cream inspired by Qingcheng Palace to the new-style "Jingbajian" (京八件, eight Beijing-style pastries) shaped like ancient buildings. Visitors can also pick up unique souvenirs such as the fridge magnets inspired by Tiangong Caisson from the Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum, or hexiangpai (合香牌), traditional incense pendants made with an age-old technique, also listed as intangible cultural heritage.
