Xiamen Institute of Technology is located in Jimei District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province. It is a full-time private undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education in 2009. In 2019, the university passed the Ministry of Education's evaluation of undergraduate teaching quality, and in 2025, it was approved for the master's degree-granting program cultivation project.

The university is known for its picturesque campus, which has earned the reputation of a garden with lush green trees surrounding the buildings, and red blossoms illuminating the towers in all seasons. It boasts excellent educational conditions and a beautiful campus environment. The university upholds the educational philosophy of nurturing virtue through education, shaping minds with culture, and envisions itself as a century-old institution, a century-old prestigious school. It implements a talent cultivation model that integrates liberal education, knowledge education, and ability training, focusing on faculty development, discipline and program construction, student development, and campus culture. This has gradually shaped its unique educational characteristics.
The university currently has six undergraduate schools: the School of Mechanical, Electrical, and Information Engineering, the School of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the School of Business, the School of Foreign Languages, and the School of Liberal Education and Art Media. In addition, there are public teaching units such as The Department of the Teaching of Ideological and Political Theory and the Physical Education Department.
The university focuses on talent cultivation that aligns with national strategies and the economic and cultural development needs of the local region. In line with the economic development demands of Fujian Province and Xiamen City, the university prioritizes the training of applied talents, mainly in engineering, and offers 38 undergraduate programs across six academic categories: engineering, science, economics, management, literature, and arts.

The university currently has more than 10,000 full-time students and nearly 1,000 faculty and staff. 
The library of Xiamen Institute of Technology covers an area of 39,000 square meters, with over 1 million physical books in its collection. In recent years, the university has vigorously promoted the informatization of education, establishing nearly 200 smart classrooms. These classrooms create an elegant and innovative teaching environment designed to facilitate student learning. The university has proposed a systematic approach to educational culture construction and developed a distinctive educational culture system. Notable cultural and artistic events include the Ai Sheng Jie (爱生节) — a day dedicated to expressing love and appreciation for students, Zun Shi Jie (尊师节) — a day to honor and show respect for teachers, the Boya Cup Annual Art Exhibition, and the Xiamen Institute of Technology Marathon, which reflect the school's commitment to cultivating students' cultural character and humanistic spirit.
The university actively explores the integration of education, technology, and talent development, continuously enhancing talent cultivation quality through educational reforms such as advanced teaching, AI education, and industry-education integration. Since October 2019, the university has won 72 provincial and ministerial-level teaching quality engineering projects, 43 teaching reform projects, and 17 teacher teaching competition awards. It now has 7 provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs, 1 high-level applied undergraduate program in Xiamen City, 35 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, 1 provincial-level demonstrative applied professional group, 4 provincial-level industry service specialty programs, 4 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 provincial-level virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 2 provincial-level undergraduate teaching teams, 1 provincial-level curriculum ideological and political teaching research center, and 1 provincial-level modern industry college.
The university emphasizes the cultivation of students' abilities and follows the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) philosophy, focusing on teaching outcomes and strengthening the development of diverse practical abilities needed for the future. It implements an ability-oriented advanced teaching model, focusing on improving students' comprehensive practical abilities and innovative thinking. In addition to improving on-campus professional experimental and training facilities, the university continues to invest in building 5 industry colleges, 12 interdisciplinary campus creative workshops, and 155 off-campus internship bases. At the same time, the university has established a management system that supports the strengthening of ability cultivation and improves teachers' awareness and competence in nurturing students' practical skills.
Students excel in disciplines such as academic competitions, innovation and entrepreneurship contests, sports and cultural activities, and research achievements. The university sends nearly 3,000 undergraduate graduates into society each year. Graduates enjoy a good employment situation and are highly praised by both society and enterprises.
