For international travelers in Guangzhou, navigating the city’s sprawling metro system has become much simpler thanks to the Guangzhou Metro App.
While in-station intelligent service machines and robots have been introduced recently, their English functions still require some improvement, as many detailed screens remain partially in English.
The app, by contrast, offers more comprehensive English support for trip planning and station guidance, putting essential metro information in your pocket.

Once downloaded, the Guangzhou Metro App serves as a personal navigation assistant, offering:
Real-time route planning with clear transfer instructions and travel times
AR navigation within stations helps travelers find their way to exits and platforms
A facility list for each station, showing elevators, escalators, restrooms, ticket machines, metro card top-up devices, and so on
Exit guidance to nearby destinations, making it easy to identify the right exit for hotels, attractions, or transit connections
Live service alerts and travel updates, keeping passengers informed of any delays or temporary changes

Even travelers who prefer not to use Alipay or WeChat Pay can navigate with ease.
Tickets can be purchased with credit cards or cash at station machines, while the app handles route planning and station guidance.

The main limitation is that the metro’s customer service hotline is still in Chinese, which could be inconvenient in emergencies.
For day-to-day travel, however, the App provides clear English instructions and real-time navigation, enabling visitors to use the metro independently and confidently.
With its English-friendly guidance and live service information, the Guangzhou Metro App truly puts smart metro travel in your pocket, making the city’s vast transit network far more accessible to global travelers.
