Chengdu for May Day: Shopping, Arts and Fun!

Chengdu has prepared a rich variety of holiday scene activities to offer more options for local residents and visitors to the city for the coming May Day holiday.

According to data from Ctrip, China’s leading online tourism agency, the number of inbound tourism orders for this year's May Day holiday has increased by 173% compared to the same period last year. Chengdu ranks among the Top 10 popular destinations for inbound tourism during the May Day holiday.
The Ministry of Commerce, along with other five government branches, released on April 27 a notice on optimizing the departure tax refund policy to boost inbound consumption. According to the notice, the minimum spending threshold eligible for a departure tax refund has been lowered from RMB 500 to RMB 200 ($27) per day at the same store, meanwhile, the cash refund cap has been raised from RMB 10000 to RMB 20000 while there remains no upper limit for rax refunds made via bank transfer. .
The notice also encourages the expansion of tax refund restores, a borader range of eligible stores and improve tax refud efficiency to better serve international visitors. On the same day, the instant tax refund service was officially put into service at the SKP in Chengdu, increasing the number of participating stores to 50.

A series of new exhibitions and performances are launched in Chengdu around the May Day holiday, such as the 2025 David Tao World Tour Concert, the Starry Night Concert at the venue of Tianfu AG Expo Park, and the 2025 Strawberry Music Festival; exhibitions during the period include the debut of Picasso's Imagination factory in Chengdu and The Art of Growth - Exhibition of New Sichuan-style Bonsai Works.

The "2025 Chengdu·European Cultural Season" was launched by Chengdu Media Group at the Eastern Suburb Memory in mid-April. A series of art exhibitions, concerts, and theatrical performances are staged or to be shown during the event, including UN PASEO POR LA LUZ by Joaquín Sorolla and Treptow's Rock Concert.

Chengdu Culture & Tourism Development Group and Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, in cooperation with the Douyin platform, jointly launch the "Fun Season in Colorful May" during the period of April 30—May 3 at the Music Wharf of the Jinjiang River, where a series of holiday consumption scenarios and activities will be held, such as the "Heartbeat List" Creative Consumption Bazaars, the "Chengdu a Lively City" Live Marketing, and the Night Cruising on the Jinjiang River.
