Come to Chengdu for Mid-Autumn Lanterns

As the Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching,

Chengdu is lighting up for the celebrations.

Grand intangible cultural heritage lantern shows,

ancient-style fish lantern parades,

and spectacular light shows at city landmarks will take turns dazzling visitors.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Lantern Shows

On September 25, the International Intangible Cultural Heritage Park will hold the 2026–2027 Chengdu Intangible Cultural Heritage Lantern Show. The lantern displays will continue through February 25, 2027.

Visitors can look forward to a variety of spectacular installations, including the Jinsha Bronze Standing Figure lantern set, a sea of colorful flower lanterns, a giant orange tabby lantern, a blue-and-white tie-dye stage, a cloud tunnel draped in colorful gauze, and a dazzling sea of golden rice-field lanterns.

Fish Lantern Parades

Wufengxi Ancient Town

On September 25, Wufengxi Ancient Town will present a special traditional Chinese-style celebration for the Mid-Autumn Festival. An ancient-style fish lantern parade will take place from 15:30 to 19:30, with interactive activities along the route, including a poetry exchange with a Chang’e performer, live performances of traditional dances, and Mid-Autumn gift giveaways.

Qionglai Wenmaifun

Qionglai Wenmaifun will offer an immersive experience of a lantern-lit ancient city. A Han-style fish lantern parade will take place on September 25 and from October 1 to 4. It will feature interactive character performer activities, including “Lighting Lanterns for the Moon” and “Peddler’s Lantern Exchange”.

River Lanterns

Night Cruise on Jinjiang River

From September 25 to 27, the “Lantern-Lit Jinjiang River—Double Celebration” will be held at Dongmen Wharf and along the surrounding waterways of the Night Cruise on Jinjiang River in Jinjiang District. As part of the event, the “Jinjiang River Lanterns—Millennial Blessing Ritual” will take place on the evening of September 25 along the Jinjiang River. The floating river lanterns used for the event will be made from environmentally friendly EVA material.

Chengxiang Ancient City

A river lantern blessing event will be held on the moat of Chengxiang Ancient City in Qingbaijiang District from September 25 to 26 and October 1 to 7.

Chang’e Ascending to the Moon

From September 25 to October 7, the “Journey Back to Mount Qingcheng” Performance Park in Dujiangyan will hold a festival-themed event. The park’s iconic silver-thread ancient architecture at Menghui Square will be transformed into a “Moon Palace on Earth” and recreate the myth of Chang’e ascending to the moon through themed installations, a giant moon lantern, and interactions with a Chang’e performer.

“Poems on the Moon”

Chengdu Financial City Twin Towers will turn into giant “notes of poetry on the moon” as the “Poems on the Moon” event returns as scheduled this year. From September 25 to 27, the 52,000-square-meter giant screen will light up with selected original poems for three consecutive days.
