International visitors now have two more foreign bank card options when riding metro in Chengdu. Recently, Chengdu Rail Transit Group introduced support for two additional foreign bank card brands, Diners and Discover, based on the “tag-and-go” bank card fare payment service launched in July last year. With this addition, Chengdu’s rail transit system now accepts six types of bank cards— UnionPay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners, and Discover.

Since the introduction of the “tag-and-go” payment service for foreign bank cards, over 269,000 passenger trips have been recorded using the service, with daily usage reaching over 1,000 trips during holidays. Passengers can tap any of the six supported bank cards at the fare gates of all Chengdu Metro stations to enjoy instant access to metro.

It should be noted that passengers are required to enable the small-amount password-free payment feature and ensure sufficient account balance or available credit before using the “tap-and-go” service. Fares are charged according to the standard rail transit prices. For any issues, passengers may call Chengdu Metro service hotline at 028-61638000 or seek assistance from on-site staff.

Moreover, to further facilitate travel for international visitors and passengers from other cities, Chengdu Metro has installed bilingual signage in both Chinese and English across the metro network, ensured full coverage of bilingual announcements across trains and stations, and equipped over 400 stations with multilingual translation devices. Luggage lockers have been launched at Dongjiao Memory Station and Panda Avenue Station, allowing passengers to store their luggage in as little as 30 seconds and enjoy luggage-free travel. Metro stations, such as Chengdu East Railway Station and South Railway Station, now provides services for short-term rest and shared reading. With more than 1,000 business outlets across the network opening early in the morning, passengers can grab breakfast, a cup of coffee, or a bunch of flowers on their way to metro. These small details make travel more convenient.
