It will soon be a reality to travel from Guangzhou to downtown Foshan and Dongguan in 30 minutes, and from Guangzhou South Station to Baiyun International Airport in 31 minutes.
The Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway (Panyu–Baiyun Airport North) and the Pazhou–Lianhuashan Intercity Railway are scheduled to start operation before the 15th National Games in mid-November.
Once operational, the two routes will connect with Guangzhou-Huizhou, Guangzhou-Zhaoqing, Guangzhou-Qingyuan intercity railways and Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway (Baiyun Airport North - Huadu), significantly enhancing the connectivity between Guangzhou and nearby cities with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway runs 57.8 kilometers from Panyu to Baiyun Airport North, forming a north-south axis. It links the Guangfo East Ring section and the Airport T2 extension of the Xintang–Baiyun Airport–Guangzhou North Intercity Railway, with 13 stations including Panyu (existing), Dashi East, Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, Pazhou, Keyun Road, Longdong, Dayuan, Maofengshan, Zhuliao, Baiyun Airport East, Baiyun Airport South, and Baiyun Airport North (existing).
The Pazhou–Lianhuashan Intercity Railway, also known as the Pazhou Branch Line, stretches 18.2 kilometers and has four stations: Pazhou, Shenjing, Hualong South, and Guangzhou Lianhuashan (existing).
The Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway (Panyu–Baiyun Airport North)  will connect
with the Guangzhao(Guangzhou-Zhaoqing) Intercity Railway via Panyu Station to the west;
with the Palian(Pazhou–Lianhuashan) Intercity Railway and Guanghui (Guangzhou-Huizhou) Intercity Railway via Pazhou Station and Lianhuashan Station to the east;
with the Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway (Baiyun Airport North-Huadu) and Guangqing(Guangzhou-Qingyuan) Intercity Railway via Baiyun Airport North Station and Huadu Station.
Once these routes are connected and operational, travel time from Guangzhou will be significantly shortened, with direct access to downtown Foshan and Dongguan in 30 minutes, Zhaoqing and Huizhou in 60 minutes, and Qingyuan in 90 minutes, dramatically enhancing regional connectivity.
