China Extends Visa Fees Reduction Until December 31, 2026

Jan 02, 2026

Introduced in December 2023 to help lower the cost of travel procedures for international visitors, China’s reduced visa fees, initially planned for one year and already extended once through December 31, 2025, will remain in effect even longer.

Chinese authorities officially confirmed last week that the visa fee reduction will be extended through December 31, 2026.

This decision follows the recent extension of the exemption from fingerprint collection for short-term visas, which has also been maintained through the end of 2026. Together, these measures aim to make travel to China more accessible for foreign visitors.
The extension has been announced by several Chinese embassies around the world, including in France, the United Kingdom, Canada, or even in Saudi Arabia. These diplomatic missions confirm that the reduced visa fees currently in place will continue throughout 2026, with no changes to eligibility requirements or application conditions.
Under this policy, the cost of single-entry, double-entry, and multiple-entry visas reflects a 25% reduction compared with the standard visa fees in effect in 2023, resulting in meaningful savings for travelers. Before the introduction of the measure, visa fees were notably higher, making the current pricing more attractive for both leisure and business travel.
It is important to note that the reduction applies only to consular visa fees charged directly by embassies and consulates. In countries where China operates through outsourced visa application centers, additional service fees continue to apply and remain unchanged. These service charges are paid separately and are added to the reduced consular fee.
By extending the reduced visa fees through the end of 2026, China provides greater clarity and predictability for individuals and businesses planning trips to the country. Combined with simplified administrative procedures, such as the extension through December 31, 2026 of the unilateral 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of 45 countries, this move underscores China’s intention to support the recovery and growth of international travel and exchanges.
