China's commerce ministry recently issued an expansion of its service industry pilot program as part of an effort to accelerate the liberalization of the industry. The expanded program covers Xiamen and Fuzhou as well as seven other cities. The program's pilot tasks are designed to encourage participating cities to pursue differentiated exploration based on local conditions.
Government officials said that participating cities will be encouraged to leverage their geographic advantages and distinctive industries. Key service sectors to be addressed by the program include telecommunications, healthcare and wellness, commerce, finance and cultural tourism.
Pilot tasks tailored to Xiamen include leveraging key industrial parks and platforms to facilitate cultural trade and to advance service trade cooperation among BRICS nations.
