To Students: How to Get Right Residence Permits for Working

Part.01 Application Requirements

1. International students enrolled in higher education institutions in Beijing who need to participate in off-campus internships due to professional training needs.
2. International students enrolled in higher education institutions in Beijing who need to make use of their spare time to earn legal remuneration through part-time work to improve their study and living conditions under the organization and management of their universities.
3. International students enrolled in higher education institutions in Beijing who work part-time for their own business in Zhongguancun, the "Two Zones" (namely the Integrated National Demonstration Zone for Increased Opening in the Service Sector, and the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone) and other national key development areas in China.
Part.02 Supporting Documents and Relative Requirements
1. A valid passport or any other international travel document.
2. A VISA / STAY PERMIT / RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION FORM with a recent half-length, white background, bareheaded, front-faced 2-inch color photo.
3. A valid accommodation registration record in Beijing.
4. Any foreigner aged 18-70 who applies for a residence permit with a validity period of more than one year is required to submit the Verification Certificate of Medical Examination Records of Overseas Personnel issued by an entry-exit health and quarantine authority of China within six months.
5. Any foreigner applying for a residence permit shall submit the documents as follows:
a. For any X1-visa holder, a certificate of enrollment or admission with the information on study duration from the host institution.
b. For any non-X1 visa holder, besides the certificate aforementioned, the Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201/JW202), or the enrollment letter from Beijing Municipal Education Commission should be provided.
6. Any foreigner who applies for the endorsement of off-campus internship on his/her residence permit shall submit the documents as follows:
a. A certification letter (in Chinese) on approval of the off-campus internship by the college that the applicant is current studying in, stating that the internship is part of the teaching program, as well as the full name of the organization or enterprise for internship, time of the internship, and specific content.
b. A certification letter (in Chinese) on receiving the applicant for internship or contract of internship, stating the personal information of the applicant receiving the internship, name of the college that the applicant is current studying in, time of internship and specific content.
7. Any foreigner who applies for the endorsement of off-campus work-study program on his/her residence permit shall submit the documents as follows:
a. A certification letter (in Chinese) on approval of the off-campus work-study program by the college that the applicant is current studying in, stating the full name of the organization for work-study program, time of work, job position and specific content.
b. A certification letter (in Chinese) issued by the employer agreeing to the work-study or the agreement on work-study program, stating the basic information of the applicant, name of university or college, time of work, job position and specific content.
8. Any foreigner who applies for the endorsement of entrepreneur on his/her residence permit shall submit the documents as follows:
a. A certification letter on part-time entrepreneurship issued by the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park, the relevant authorities of the "Two Zones", or other relevant competent authorities.
b. A recommendation letter on part-time entrepreneurship issued by the international students administration of the college that the applicant is current studying in.
Part.03 Timeline for Application
The application shall be processed in seven working days upon the submission of complete application materials.
Part.04 Locations and Opening Hours
The Exit-Entry Administration Reception Hall of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau: 9:00-17:00 from Monday to Saturday (Except for statutory holidays)
