11 Sichuan Universities Ranked in ARWU

On August 15,

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a higher education evaluation agency, released

“2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities”.

A total of 11 universities from Sichuan were included,

with Sichuan University leading the province

at 87th place globally.

“2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities” lists top 1,000 research universities worldwide. A total of 222 universities from the Chinese mainland are included, with 13 ranked among the global top 100, the same number as the previous year.

This year, Sichuan University improved its global standing by 11 positions compared to the previous year, surging ahead as Sichuan’s top performer. Other universities from Sichuan ranked among the global top 500 include the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (global top 151-200) and Southwest Jiaotong University (global top 301-400). Notably, Southwest Jiaotong University advanced by one rank range, demonstrating remarkable progress.

Other universities from Sichuan listed in the ranking include: Chengdu University of Technology (global top 601-700) , Southwest Petroleum University (global top 601-700) , Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (global top 701-800) , Chengdu University (global top 801-900) , Sichuan Agricultural University (global top 801-900) , Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (global top 901-1,000) , Southwest Medical University (global top 901-1,000) , and Southwest University of Science and Technology (global top 901-1,000) . It is worth noting that Southwest Petroleum University advanced by two rank ranges compared to 2024; Chengdu University of Technology advanced by one rank range; Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Southwest Medical University appeared on the list for the first time.
