Honeycomb briquette cakes have drawn many guests in a buffet cafeteria in Xiangyang city, Hubei province.
A buffet cafeteria in Xiangyang city, Hubei province has seen a surge of customers for its new delicacy - honeycomb briquette cakes. Whenever the dish was renewed, it would be emptied immediately.
Stout black cylinders with holes from bottom to top, the cakes look exactly like honeycomb briquettes, which were used in almost every Chinese household between the 1980’s and 1990’s.
“It’s sweet and spongy, very good,” a diner said.
The cakes are actually made from black rice and chocolate, according to the restaurant owner. As they are much demanded by guests, the restaurant serves the cakes only to tables with four guests or more.
