Xinjiang

Editor's Note: Recently, the "China in the Eyes of Sinologists: A Cultural Tour in Xinjiang" delegation traveled through Kashi, Urumqi, Ili and beyond in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Its members, from across the globe, boast deep familiarity with Chinese culture—many even count as "old China hands." What caught their eye in Xinjiang? What stayed with them? Starting today, InXinjiang presents a special series, Insights from Sinologists, to bring their journey to life.

Recently, sinologists from over ten countries conducted field trips in such places as Kashi Prefecture, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture and Urumqi City in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. They deeply felt the unique charm of Xinjiang, where nature and humanity shine upon each other, appreciated the profound heritage of diverse cultures coexisting harmoniously, and formed a direct and profound understanding of Xinjiang.
Iraqi translator Abbas Jawad Kdaimy, visiting Xinjiang for the first time, shared his impressions. He said that with the Belt and Road Initiative, Xinjiang has become a link connecting Central Asia and West Asia. Markets and streets in Urumqi, Kashi and other places are bustling with crowds; people of all ethnic groups live in harmony, as close as family members. Everyone is busy working hard to improve their lives, and the region is full of vitality.
He also refuted the false propaganda of Western media based on his personal experience. He said that some Western media have stereotypes about China and sometimes use Xinjiang as an example to make false accusations against China. "When I see myself by my eyes, as an eyewitness, that people in Xinjiang feel happy and live a decent life. I feel this is a very good answer to anyone who says a false claim that 'Xinjiang is not stable, is not peaceful, is not like this,'" Abbas Jawad Kdaimy said.
In the future, Abbas Jawad Kdaimy hopes to translate more stories about Xinjiang's development to show the international community a true Xinjiang that is economically prosperous and culturally rich.
