Recently, Chengdu released the Departure Tax Refund Guide for Overseas Visitors in Chengdu and a short video introducing departure tax refund services. They help every overseas visitor to Chengdu enjoy “worry-free shopping and seamless refund experiences”.
According to data from January to June this year, Chengdu’s inbound tourism consumption market continued to grow as foreign nationals spent approximately RMB 1.877 billion in Chengdu, a year-on-year increase of 46.6%; the number of departure tax refund applications, the value of goods purchased under the program, and the refund amount increased by 377%, 46%, and 33% year-on-year respectively. These outcomes demonstrate the policy’s strong impact in driving consumption.

To date, Chengdu has 734 stores offering tax refunds for departing visitors and 283 stores providing the “refund-upon-purchase” service, an increase of 124 and 93 stores respectively compared with the end of 2025. Chengdu ranks fifth nationwide in the number of participating stores.
