“I’ve really been very happy and been very fond of living here for four years and working here for four years.”
Recently, Günther Lazelsberger, Consul General of Austria in Chengdu, left Chengdu after four years of service. Before his departure, he shared his fondness for and attachment to the city.
Frequently appearing on camera as an “internet celebrity”, Günther Lazelsberger has been nicknamed “Lao Lei” by Chengdu locals. During his four years of “home in Chengdu”, the city left him with countless fond memories—of work, of daily life, of its cuisine, of its people… Upon his departure, “Lao Lei” captured with a film camera his own Chengdu memories—its parks, its food, Wuhou Shrine, and more.

He said, “I hope some friends from here will come to visit me in Austria occasionally. And also I hope that I find the opportunity to come back to Chengdu, come back to southwest China, to meet those friends, and also to have a delicious food again.”
