In 2024, Chengdu proactively advanced friendship city engagement, consistently broadening the international “circle of friends”, constantly optimizing the friendship city network, and expediting the upgrading of Chengdu’s international influence and openness.
01 Chengdu
Chengdu paired up with three new international friendship cities: Tunis (the capital of Tunisia), Victoria (the capital of Seychelles), and Melbourne (Australia). Additionally, it has elevated its partnership with Yekaterinburg, Russia as international sister cities. This brings the total number of international friendship cities to 113.


On March 15, 2024, Chengdu and Melbourne signed the Agreement on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On April 26, 2024, Chengdu and Tunis signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On September 6, 2024, Chengdu and Victoria signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On September 12, 2024 local time during the Yekaterinburg International Puppet Theatre Festival, Chengdu and Yekaterinburg signed the Agreement on Establishing International Sister City Relations during the signing ceremony, upgrading their partnership as international sister cities.


02  Districts (county-level cities) and counties
Nine new pairs of international friendship cities were added, bringing the total number of international friendship cities at the district (county-level city) and county level to 125. These nine new pairs are: Jinniu District and Selangor (Malaysia), Chongzhou City and La Roca del Vallès (Spain), Chongzhou City and Kočevje (Slovenia), Qingbaijiang District and Gómez Palacio (Mexico), Pengzhou City and Cerrillos (Chile), Jianyang City and Tenjo (Colombia), Dujiangyan City and Machu Picchu (Peru), Dujiangyan City and Urgut (Uzbekistan), and Pengzhou City and Petrópolis (Brazil). Dujiangyan City upgraded its partnership with Procida (Italy) as international sister cities.


On March 4, 2024, Jinniu District and Selangor (Malaysia) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On April 3, 2024, Dujiangyan City and Procida (Italy) signed the Agreement on Establishing Sister City Relations, laying a solid foundation for further friendly cooperation and exchanges between the two cities.


On April 23, 2024, Chongzhou City and La Roca del Vallès (Spain) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On June 18, 2024, Chongzhou City and Kočevje (Slovenia) signed the Agreement on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On June 25, 2024, Qingbaijiang District and Gómez Palacio (Mexico) completed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations through an exchange of signed documents via mail, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On June 28, 2024, Pengzhou City and Cerrillos (Chile) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations through an exchange of signed documents, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On September 18, 2024, Dujiangyan City and Machu Picchu (Peru) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On September 23, 2024, Jianyang City and Tenjo (Colombia) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.


On November 2, 2024, Dujiangyan City and Urgut (Uzbekistan) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations, opening a new chapter in the friendly cooperation between the two cities.


On November 25, 2024, Pengzhou City and Petrópolis (Brazil) signed the Agreement on Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations during the signing ceremony, officially establishing the friendly cooperative relations.

we will embrace a more open and inclusive strategy  

to strengthen existing partnerships, create new relationships, and enhance our 

network of friendships.

We will advance Chengdu’s high-quality international friendship city engagement,

deepen international exchanges and cooperation,

leverage complementary strengths,

and strive for mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.
