Chengdu Opens New Direct International Flight Routes

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is to launch flight routes to more foreign cities including Milan in Italy, Johor Bahru and Penang in Malaysia and to increase flights to four routes to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Colombo in Sri Lanka, Seoul in ROK and Singapore. Earlier this month, Chengdu launched direct flight to Panglao Island in the Philippines and two-way flights to Kota Kinabalu (Jesselton) and Tawau City in Malaysia.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has resumed or launched flight routes to Auckland in New Zealand, Caticlan and Bohol Island in the Philippines, increased flights for 15 routes to cities such as Los Angeles in the US, Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Hanoi in Vietnam. So far, the airport opened 60 international air routes covering North America, Europe, the Oceania, Africa and Asia, and routes to the Hong Kong and Macao SARs and Taiwan province, including 49 passenger flight routes and 11 cargo flight routes.

Air travel has seen a boom as tourism is entering the summer peak season and the inflow of inbound passengers landing at the Chengdu Airport recorded a remarkable rise. Statistics by Chengdu Checkpoint of the cross-border passenger services, the flow of inbound and outbound passengers exceeded 3 million as of 11:00 on July 20, 2024, more than the total of last year, which also claimed the largest among the opening up airports in central and western China. The booked air tickets for inbound and outbound air trips hit over 6.6 million, a 74% increase year on year.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is to continue to schedule more international flights in the future and to provide increased and more convenient options for travelers in the summer holidays.
