Miyin Temple, located in Weishan Mountain, Ningxiang County,Hunan Province, is recognized as the revered cradle of the Weiyang School-one of China's five major Southern Chan Buddhist traditions.The temple houses the world’s tallest open-air statue of the Thousand-Handed Guanyin.In 847, the first year of the Dazhong era of TangDynasty, Pei Xiu, the governor of Tanzhou Prefecture and ChiefCommissioner of Hunan Province, requested Emperor Xuanzong (Li Chen)to calligraphy a plaque for the temple, reading “Miyin Chan Temple." Inthe summer of 1917,young Mao Zedong visited the temple.
