Changsha
Ireland's national treasure dance show Riverdance marked its 30th anniversary with two performances at the Meixi Lake International Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater in Changsha at 7:30 p.m. on January 20 and 21. With a brand-new stage design and cast, the performances delivered groundbreaking visual and auditory storytelling, offering audiences a dynamic fusion of power and elegance.
Since its debut on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala in 2009, which sparked a nationwide tap dance craze, Riverdance has become a dance classic in the hearts of countless Chinese audiences. The performances in Changsha were led by a new generation of dancers, primarily born in the 2000s with an average age of just 23, who unleashed youthful vigor through rapid-fire footwork reaching up to 35 taps per second.
The show achieved dual innovations in both visual and auditory dimensions. The stage used over 2,000 light sources and cutting-edge 3D projection technology to create a magical space of thunderstorms and surging waves, turning the stage into a flowing epic. Meanwhile, the live music, which has maintained its Grammy Award-winning standards, blended traditional Celtic instruments like bagpipes and fiddles with modern electric ensembles, offering audiences an immersive symphonic experience.
