QINGDAO DAILY, October 17 — The fifth Shandong Forum officially opened on the morning of October 17, with Vice Mayor Zhao Yan delivering the opening address.

This year’s forum is themed Peace and Development in East Asia from the Perspective of Global Governance. Its program includes an opening ceremony, special addresses, high-level forums, an entrepreneurs’ roundtable, a forum on the public administrations of China and South Korea and six other parallel sessions to focus on emerging trends in global governance, East Asian security, economic cooperation, the rule of law and civilization, people-to-people exchanges, social development and ecological governance. The forum aims to bring together experts, scholars and industry representatives from China and abroad to deepen dialogue, build consensus and contribute insights towards peace, cooperation and high-quality development in East Asia.

The Shandong Forum is jointly hosted by Shandong University and South Korea’s CHEY Institute for Advanced Studies (CIAS) with its inaugural edition held in November 2016. Guided by the principles of focusing on East Asia, fostering mutual trust through dialogue, and pursuing win-win cooperation, the forum centres on the vision of an East Asian community with a shared future to serve as a high-level academic platform for engagement and exchange among political, business and academic leaders worldwide.
